Top Weight Loss Myths

Anyone who decides to lose weight for any reason will need to get prepared to meet a number of challenges as they look for the simplest or most effective method to do it. Apart from the fact that there are many procedures that don’t deliver an ounce of what they promise, there are also many weight loss myths that need to be demystified. Many of these weight loss lies are related with fitness and staying trim and more often than not they cause people to lose track of their good plans and intentions.

Myth #1 – You need a machine in order to burn calories  Truth: There is a great confusion regarding the number of calories that are burned during any given form of exercise. This is why people will assume that you will burn more calories using a fancy machine that is found in specific gyms as opposed to doing exercise that is not supported by a machine. The truth of the matter about exercise is that machine or no machine the amount of calories you burn will depend on how much effort you will put into the activity. No matter what equipment you are using, the easier the exercise the fewer the calories you will burn.

Myth #2 – You are better off weight training with free weights than machines Truth: The reason you enter into any general fitness program is usually to tone up your muscles as well as weight loss and as such it really may not make a difference. The best way to get through the problem of weight training is usually to maneuver until you find that which you are going to be comfortable with and that you are able to get access to on a regular basis.

Myth #3– Only low intensity exercise is good for weight loss because it puts you in a fat burning zone
Truth:  The truth of the matter is that the body is constantly burning fats and carbohydrates for its fuel only that during low intensity exercises they will be a little extra fat. Some people assume that this means that low intensity exercises are best for weight loss. All the fats and carbohydrates come from the same pool and it makes no difference which one you are actually burning since all that matters is the calories you are expending.

Myth #4 – You only need to exercise for 30 minutes three times a week to lose weight Truth: Whereas such a threshold would be considered a good minimum you can be sure that your body should actually be physically active every day if possible. The benefit of any good exercise program is that you will not only lose weight but will also live a healthier life and also feel more energetic. The other good thing about exercising daily for between is that you will enhance your metabolism especially if you can manage to do aerobic exercises for between 30 – 60 minutes three days a week and three days of weight training as well.
