Weight Loss for Good Health

Different people trying to lose weight normally do so for different reasons and different motivations. Whereas some do so in order to improve their appearance, there are those who lose weight seasonally in order to fit into an old outfit or perhaps for the purpose of attending a social function such as a wedding, a party or even a company event. The good news is that there are better benefits of weight loss such as the improvement of your health status.

For health and longevity
One of the main benefits of weight loss has to do with fact the reducing body fat plays an integral role in the maintenance of good health and the fight against many diseases. There is sufficient scientific evidence that shows that people who are overweight or obese are at a greater risk of developing major chronic diseases as well as longevity. It is therefore important for those who want to enjoy health and a longer and healthier life to get into an effective weight loss program.

Avoidance of chronic diseases
There is a direct link between the amount of body fat that a person has and their risk of contracting major lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and some types of cancer. Most of these diseases are related to sedentary lives and other lifestyle factors that lead to inactivity. People who are obese require more energy for simple activities such as breathing because the heart must work harder to drive blood to the lungs. It is this excess workload that sometimes causes the heart to enlarge and this almost always leads to problems such as high blood pressure and other cardiovascular conditions.

Reduction of cholesterol
Another reason you must lose weight for health purposes is that you will avoid a situation where you have excess cholesterol levels which makes a person susceptible to conditions such as arteriosclerosis which is a narrowing of the arteries due to plaque deposits. When this condition occurs it can be life threatening because it can block the flow of blood to vital body organs such as your heart, kidneys and the brain among others. This also forces the heart to pump harder which caused the rise in blood pressure which comes with other risks such as strokes, kidney failure and heart attacks.

Blood sugar
It also emerges that there is a delicate balance between your blood sugar levels, the amount of body fat and the hormone insulin. When there is more than the required amount to blood sugar it gets stored in the vital body organs such as the liver where it is finally converted into fat. As the fat cells continue to become full they begin taking in less and less blood sugar. This in effect causes the pancreas to secrete more insulin that the body can’t use so as to regulate the amount of blood sugar and when the entire body gets overwhelmed it results in a disease such as diabetes.
